EVANGELICAL OUTREACH AMONG
ETHNIC PEOPLE GROUPS IN CHINA

Minority OutreachThere are 55 minority groups in China. Most of them are unreached by the Gospel. Revival of the house churches in China occurred in coastal and central China, concentrating in the Hans majority. Although some house churches are reaching out to the minorities in border provinces, they need help from outside to take up this challenge.

CMI began to contact the minorities in 1991, and then cooperated with churches and mission agencies to adopt a group for mission work. In this process, a new strategy called "Multi-Adoption Partnership" (MAP) was developed. whereby partnering groups play different roles according to their gifts and talents, until a native church is planted in an adopted group. CMI's role is to integrate missions with research and training so that sufficient information on a group may be gathered and training materials can be developed to train mission teams.

Adoption goes through a process of research and prayer-walking before a group and a feasible site is selected. Then short-term teams are sent out to begin mission activies. Eventually, tentmakers and missionaries are sent over to help with the church planting work.

If your church is interested to adopt a people group in China, CMI can provide information and partnetship. You can join a summer team first to visit some of minority groups and bring the vision back to your own church. The expense for a summer trip is about $2,000. Please contact CMI for further details concerning date and itinerary.
